Beginning @ minute 39:36

February 6, 2023 was the meeting during which Chairperson Smith stated: I'm reclaiming the role of the chairperson with authority. I’m done with all of the disrespect to the process itself and to each other. We WILL move forward with the expectation that all members will act with respect and follow the set agenda and our policies. Let me repeat, I will stop any member who speaks off topic to items not on the agenda, as well as stop any audience member from being disruptive or disrespectful to any school committee member.” She also read a “draft” letter
referencing Library procedures for challenged books. Member Pires asked the committee if this should be open to the community for feedback and public weigh-in on the topic and public vote. Ms. McSweeny stated that we are the elected officials representing the community. Chairperson Smith explained the only conversations we have are for budget purposes. The elected officials, us, are the ones that put the policy in place. Chairperson Smith further explained that if approved by the Committee, this would be the statement of the entire Committee as a whole, and at the next meeting each member would sign the statement.
